An off-the-cuff discussion about a situation that occurred a couple of months ago.

A transgender woman in the United States became very upset when the anti-transgender policies of the anti-transgender government affected her – despite her voting for them.

She thought she would be an exception. She thought, surely they won’t put her in that basket. Surely they would acknowledge that they were on the same team.

No, if someone sees you as ‘other’ in a big way, it often doesn’t matter if you’re on the same page in other ways. If you are the wrong religion according to someone else, it often doesn’t matter if you’re the same race – you will remain ‘other’. If you’re the wrong race, it often doesn’t matter if you support the same sports team – you will remain ‘other’.

If someone sees you as less of a person, then they will not value your well-being, and will put it aside if it doesn’t serve them. Agreeing to disagree doesn’t come into the picture.
